HAPPY NEW YEAR! We here at TheAverageChicagoan.com decided to wrap up our first full inaugural year on the net by awarding a few Chicagoans with recognition for their accomplishments in 2009. These awards go only to Chicagoans and individuals representing Chicago. We realize that we could create an endless amount of awards for an endless amount of people but we hope to get you viewers actually involved. We have come up with a brief list of award recipients below but are leaving room for reader suggestions. Comment below if you have a certain award you’d like to give a fellow Chicagoan in the news or not and we will update the list to include your suggestions.
EMBARRASSMENT OF THE YEAR – The Chicago Olympic Bid – Everyone involved wins for Chicago, not only losing, but placing last in the vote, with our mayor, town and president, who personally flew out to Denmark to make a plea on Chicago’s behalf, totally embarrassed.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT – Jay Cutler – Awarded to Cutler based on the hype he brought when first traded to the Bears and now has thrown more INTS than touchdowns as the season wraps with the Chicago Bears finishing third in the division and out of the playoffs.
YEAR’S BIGGEST DOUCHE – Kanye West – Winner because only a douche would ruin an award speech for a 1st time winner whose also happens to be a teenage girl. Don’t know if he’ll show up to accept the award due to him being in hiding ever since the Taylor Swift incident.
VILLIAN OF THE YEAR – Milton Bradley – Simply put: “everyone seemed to hate you here due to your attitude and on-field production.”
MOST PITIFUL – The Blagojevich Family – Awarded to the Blagojevich’s for resorting to some unorthodox measures to make some cash that might make one question his self-respect. He not only has landed a book deal, done countless TV & radio appearances strictly for the appearance fees given, performed in a comedy show about his circus-of-an-end time as governor, but had even negotiated to appear on a D-list NBC reality show to eventually have his wife go on in his place after a judge ruled against him leaving the U.S. for filming. This new measure for obtaining money is surprising but is a pretty accurate indication of where the governor and his family are heading.
MOST TIRING PERSON/COMPANY – Drew Peterson – So tired of hearing about this guy.
CHICAGO’S SURPRISE OF ’09 – Chicago Blackhawks – That playoff run earlier in the year was a complete surprise coming from such a young team. And now their one of the best teams this season in the NHL.
YEAR’S BEST SPORTS TEAM – Chicago Blackhawks – All of the sudden they are the best team in Chicago and top of the NHL. You see more Blackhawks gear around town now don’t you?
ROLE MODEL – Michelle Obama – I can’t think of a reason why she doesn’t deserve this award henceforth she gets it.
MOST VALUABLE CHICAGOAN – President Barack H. Obama – He is a Chicagoan who is currently the leader of the free world, need we say more?
