If you reside in or are visiting Chicago and in need of a gym, then this neighborhood bodybuilder gym is must. Quad’s Gym, located in the Lakeview neighborhood, has operated for over 20 years and is one of the best local gyms I have ever come across. It contains 40,000 square feet of free weights, cardio equipment, Pilates apparatuses, other exercise machines as well as holding a martial arts and boxing training area. The amount and variety of machines available will allow any member to work on a specific body part in several different ways, normally without any queues. A few negatives for most gym subscribers are lack of machines and wait to use particular machines, but with the vast variety of equipment and machines at Quad’s these complaints are rarely uttered. In addition to the supply of equipment and training areas, Quad’s also sells an assortment of supplements, nutritional foods (found in their health bar), workout gear, and clothing.
There are few more factors that make potentially being a member of this gym well worth it. For one, the pricing is very reasonable and easy. The gym accepts most accepted forms of credit cards as well as cash. The rates range from a simple $11 charge for a one day usage, $75 for a month, $210 for three months, and pricing up to a full year’s membership. There also are no contracts, meaning you pay for how long you want to stay, NO yearly commitments or monthly deductions from your credit card. How ever long you want to use the gym you pay upfront and come when you choose. There are also discounts for students, military personnel, police officers, firemen, and seniors.
The atmosphere is very relaxed. There is a mix of professional bodybuilders, couples, trainers, seniors, kids, the young and middle-aged, and maybe an occasional celebrity or professional athlete from time to time. Members either keep to themselves or groups of friends train while socializing with one another.
In the end, Quad’s Gym is a serious place to build muscle and train and encompasses all of what you might want out of a place where you’ll probably spend a good amount of time in every day. The hours of operation are not 24/7, and there are the occasional douchbags, who grunt loudly and slam weights when they stroll through, but these inconveniences are overshadowed by the positives of this Chicago gem.
