CHICAGO- While celebrating the Cubs 6-2 victory against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday Cubs’ General Manager Jim Hendry regretfully hit the redial button on his cell phone. The fortunate man on the other end of the line once again was Indians general manger Mark Shapiro.
Randy Wells has been brilliant of late and up until Sunday had not obtained his first major league win. The Cubs won 6-2 behind a sterling effort from Wells and in that celebration he was lost forever. Jim Hendry hit the redial button on his phone from his pocket as he was applauding Randy’s 6.2 innings of 2-run ball; all Indians GM Mark Shapiro heard on the other end was “Wells is out”. Shapiro, still baffled that Hendry gave him all-universe utility man Mark DeRosa for three scrubs in the offseason decided to act swiftly and offered a Gatorade Cooler for the young star.
The trade for Wells was later approved by commissioner Bud Selig as he ruled Hendry’s words a verbal contract, he only had this to say. “This is rather unorthodox but come on, I ended the All-Star game at Miller Park in a tie.”
Milton Bradley, a long time friend of the cooler during his days in Cleveland looked forward to the reunion. “Ya know, I hope that the video of Carlos destroying our cooler was not circulated, that being said, we are looking forward to years of refreshment.”
The word out of Chicago is that the cooler will be playing Center and will bat leadoff.
