Hello fellow Chicago style hot dog enthusiast, I would like to spread the word on a place that fellow Average Chicagoan Co-Founder Jon Pirc and I really enjoy, Murphy’s Red Hots at 1211 W Belmont Ave. In a case of complete coincidence, we stopped into Murphy’s due to the always beautiful Vienna Beef sign glowing in the window.
We could tell that this was a family establishment as the owner swept up while his daughter made our food. As we were waiting for our hot dogs the owner felt the need to start some friendly conversation with us, and as they say a little truly goes a long way. After we sat down to eat I asked the owner for some ketchup to which he replied “Only if it never touches the dog.” We could not agree more.
Getting down to the hot dog, perfectly steamed bun (it’s a shame how many people forget this crucial step), bright green relish, and all the other classics in perfect proportion creating a medley of hot dog bliss. As we walked out the owner asked us how our food was, another point for this outstanding food establishment.
I highly recommend going to Murphy’s Red Hots if you are ever in West Lakeview. If you fancy yourself a Chicago hot dog connoisseur, we are sure you will recommend it as well.
