Damn good call on The Weatherman. I distinctly remember frequent shots of the lake during gloomy winter days with broken ice chunks floating between the beaches and break walls. That just struck me.

Another thing, I may be showing my age, but how can you forget about About Last Night? It had Jim Belushi before he sold out…Rob Lowe before he started filming himself in compromising positions…Demi Moore before she started working out. Plus it featured 16″ softball. I think it’s based on a play by a Chicagoan. Please amend this list when you get a chance and get rid of The Break Up. Thanks, I appreciate it.

I actually can honestly say that I was present for filming of ‘Rookie of the Year’ as a child. And while it makes for a great story, all I remember from it was that it was frigidly cold. Like most of my Chicago memories. P.S. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off should be 2nd on your list, with all due respect to Batman.

Gentlemen, let me just say that I’m a little hurt I wasn’t informed about this wonderful piece of Chicago lore! Nonetheless I found it and daddy likey! I will say that a list of the top 10 movies filmed in the Chicagoland area needs to include Breakfast Club. Just as Bender so eloquently put it “I’m workin’ on my scholarship!” Keep up the good work gents!

Hysterical and too true. I am the commuter. However, I tend to have fun with #11, #12 and #13. #11’s are the one’s that get on the el, and after the announcement of “no smoking, eating or gambling allowed on CTA vehicles”, will pull out his velveteen board and 3 pop caps with a little pea, and a big wad of money. Usually accompanied by a “patsy”, these partners in crime wouldn’t call it “gambling” per se-but they will take your money after they’ve hustled you to think you have a chance of winning any.

#12 is typically seen late night, and all weekend nights. They are the drunks. They come in bunches-or single packs. The bunches are either collegiate loud guys headed to Wrigleyville, or 4 girls dressed up like they are either going to prom, or to hang out on North Ave. and sell their wares-and act really unfriendly when the “single pack” drunk-usually a guy with a 40oz in hand, tries to strike up a conversation.

#13 is the up there in the “most highly annoying” catagory-the CUB/SOX fan. Usually a suburbanite, too intimidated to brave city traffic and/or parking-not for cost, but because they don’t know how to pararell park. Sox fans seem a bit less conspicuous than the Cub fan-you will know the cub fan by the red, white and blue decorm and the fact that they tend to stand in the aisles (even when the seats are available) and are typically found as a older man and woman with 2.5 kids along for the ride.

Chicago is privileged to have 2 great zoos — the suburban Brookfield Zoo, which is one of the best in the Midwest; and the very nice downtown Lincoln Park Zoo, one of the nation’s best free zoos. There is also Shedd Aquarium, one of the 3 best aquariums in the nation.

unsafe? i think not. people just need to stop being IDIOTS and sitting their messing with their phones. ITS CALLED STREET SMARTS. and this has been going on for how many months??? its hard to feel bad for the “victims” of these crimes when they’re caused by pure stupidity.

Whats up mayn, how goes it?? After thoroughly reading your fine article, I have to say I completely agree with every word, from ‘I clearly have a problem’ to ‘Jared Allen’s mullet exponentially adds to his badassness.’ Clearly MMA athletes have superior training methods, and participate in a sport that most definitely requires more ‘Skill, not just God-given physique or speed.’ Just ask Johnnie Morton’s bitchass. Obviously the hits he took week after week, season after season, while Scott Mitchell perpetually left him high and dry during inside post routes, did NOT prepare him for the barbaric strikes he took during the 2minutes (generous) he spent in the octagon. Also during that conversation with the Detroit Lions legend, ask him why he didn’t submit to a urine test after his lone MMA fight. Evidently steroids do not guarantee a victory in MMA, whereas in most other sports, they almost surely add to an increase in statistics. That alone has gotta say something about which sport contains tougher/more talented athletes. Just a lil food for thought. But with that said, hows life bro?? You still out in Rochelle? Gus gettin big?? Hope alls well buddy. And to all the other gentlemen associated with this site, keep up the good work, I’m a fan. Take care guys.

Thanks for the comments Feltes, thought you fell off the planet. Yeah I also was watching some stuff tonight that made me think even more about this. Most of the time guys aren’t fighting in the UFC, they fight is some low level promotion getting their head beat in for a meager wage. Plus the guys at the elite level don’t make near the dough that other elite fighters make while the Fratitias (sp) and White get fat.

If I was an insurance company in this backwards country, would I want to cover someone who gets the crap beat out of them for a living? Hell no. That seems to be the case a lot, no insurance and you get punched in the face for a living. I am kind of paraphrasing Forrest Griffin but its true.

Gus is having his first MMA fight next week vs a 3 year old. I wouldn’t want to be that 3 year old, Gus is a killing machine.
