What I Predicted:
Week 8: vs. Cleveland (CBS) The Browns are in a rebuilding mode and the Bears should be in a large defeat for the Browns at home. Brady Quinn is not nearly enough to lead the browns. Forte should have another 100+ plus yard effort as the Bears cruise 33 to 20.
What Happened: Bears 30, Browns 6
On a day we honored Walter Payton, there was a bittersweet taste in the air. Coming off the debacle in Cincinnati the Bears took care of business but all we learned from the Bears’ 30-6 victory Sunday was how bad the Browns are. If there was improvement from last week, it was buried beneath the truth of who they were playing.
By early in the second quarter, the Bears had settled for three field goals and a 9-0 lead after getting inside the red zone three times. This brought boos from the Soldier Field faithful, they win by 24 and get booed at home, not a regular occurrence.
Out of the 30 points on the board, the Jay Cutler did not score any of them. Less than 300 yards and 1 pick, I think it’s about time to question if Cutler is the long term answer in Chicago.
The Offensive line did not do Jay any favors on Sunday, there presence is almost non-existent at times and when they would show up it would cost the Bears 5 yards. Matt Forte did have a productive day with 90 yards and two touchdowns but again, this is the Browns.
I hate to say it folks, this 2009 Bears team looks to be a fragile house of cards, It wont get any easier either. If the Bears continue to get dominated on the line of scrimmage things could get ugly. Now that we can get a good feel for this team, we can now pick sure losses in the future. Baltimore, Philadelphia, Arizona, San Francisco, and Minnesota TWICE are all probable losses.
I wouldn’t make plans for a Wildcard Playoff game this year.
