What I Predicted:
Week 10: @ San Francisco (Thursday Night Football) Mike Singeltary will try to best his former franchise but the pieces are not in place even with stud Frank Gore in the backfield. Forte rolls again and so do the Bears 26 to 13.
What Happened: 49’ers 10, Bears 6
The prediction I made before this season documents how disappointing this year has been. I never thought the Bears offensive line was going to be this bad, maybe losing three of five offensive linemen was more than this offense could bear.
Coming off a short week in which the Bears were coming off a terrible home defeat against the Cardinals, they fell flat on Thursday night football. This contest was ugly early and often leaving you to believe that Lovie Smith’s time in Chicago may be coming to an end. This was one of many contests this season that you got the impression Lovie was not getting his team prepared to play.
You could tell in the first quarter that neither of the teams on the field would be playing more than 16 games this season, both clubs combined had 53 yards of total offense in the first 15 minutes.
Credit the Bears defense, albeit against a woeful passing offense, the front four came ready to play. They only managed two sacks all game but applied constant pressure on Alex Smith. It’s hard to hold any NFL team to ten points but when you add the fact that Jay Cutler turned the ball over five times it gives their performance more credibility.
Jay Cutler is extremely talented but it is clear the supporting cast is not there right now. Predictive play calling, terrible offensive line and sub par receivers make this deadly mix. Yes, Jay should have not thrown 5 picks, Hester slipping, Kellen Davis getting knocked over and trying to make a play on a ball snapped into the grass accounted for three of the five though.
With all of the things that went wrong for the Bears the bottom line holds true, they were at the 12 yard line with 10 seconds left in the game, if you want to be a marquee player in the NFL, you have to make that throw to Olsen.
Since the blowout in Cincinnati, my weekly reviews have featured ominous tones; we should all know that this team is going to finish under .500. Major changes will be made this offseason, mark my words.
